On Tuesday, August 27, EVA BC’s executive director, Ninu Kang, received the King Charles III Coronation Medal, “in recognition of your achievements and contributions to British Columbia.” Together with all the other local recipients, she attended an event held at the HMCS Discovery in Vancouver’s Stanley Park where Premier David Eby and Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin presented the medal in a formal ceremony.

“I was surprised and honoured to be included in this group of people who have all worked hard to make a difference in the community,” said Ninu Kang. “More especially I feel this medal is an honour for EVA BC and all our work to end gender-based violence.”

30,000 of these medals, that commemorate the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023, were given out across Canada, with 4,000 of those being awarded to members of the Canadian Armed Forces; 551 were given out by the government of BC.

The criteria for receiving this award are that the individual must: “Have made a significant contribution to Canada or to a particular province, territory, region or community of Canada, or have made an outstanding achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada.”
