BC Groups Divided by Trudeau’s ‘Assault-Style’ Firearms Ban

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday announced an immediate ban on “assault-style” firearms. In his remarks, Trudeau spoke about mass shootings such as at École Polytechnique in 1989; at a Quebec City mosque in 2017; and most recently in Nova Scotia, the deadliest mass shooting in Canada’s history. EVA BC’s Executive Director Tracy Porteous noted “any gun-control efforts are important steps toward lowering the rate of gender-based violence, both provincially and federally”.
