Be More Than A Bystander Special Presentation

November 25, 2016 @ 10:30 am – 11:30 am
Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel, Richmond, BC

EVA BC presented the First Annual #BeMoreThanABystander during our Annual Training Conference and on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This award honours dedicated community members who make outstanding contributions to ending gender-based violence by speaking up, interrupting and confronting harmful language and behaviour within their community, and who demonstrate courage in opposing gender-based violence. This year, two individuals were celebrated: Melinda Mack, for her many years of dedicated and impassioned leadership in the anti-violence field and her work in organizing the “Dancing in the Light” conferences in Bella Coola; and Eric Miranda, a 13 year old high school student who shared with us his project on violence against women and a pledge and poem that he wrote, championing the importance of respect and education, and calling on his peers to join him in making the pledge to take action to end violence against women and girls.

Many thanks to former BC Lions and Be More Than A Bystander spokesmen JR LaRose and Angus Reid, and the Honourable Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development, for helping present the awards and for your ongoing support of the Bystander Initiative!
