Melinda Mack Recipient of Be More Than A Bystander Award

EVA BC was thrilled to present our First Annual “Be More Than A Bystander” Award last Friday, November 25th, during our Annual Training Conference and on International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. This award honours dedicated community members who make outstanding contributions to ending gender-based violence by speaking up, interrupting and confronting harmful language and behaviour within their community, and who demonstrate courage in opposing gender-based violence. This year, two individuals were celebrated: Melinda Mack, for her many years of dedicated and impassioned leadership in the anti-violence field and her work in organizing the “Dancing in the Light” conferences in Bella Coola; and Eric Miranda, a 13 year old high school student who shared with us his project on violence against women and his pledge and poem that he wrote, championing the importance of respect and education, and calling on his peers to join him in making the pledge to take action to end violence against women and girls.
