We celebrated our Third “Be More Than A Bystander” Award last Friday, November 16th, at our EVA BC Annual Training Conference. This award honours community members who make outstanding contributions to ending gender-based violence by speaking up, interrupting and confronting harmful language and behaviour within their community, and who demonstrate courage in opposing gender-based violence. This year, we honoured the Nisg̱a’a VAWIR (Violence Against Women in Relationships) Committee, for its dedicated commitment to increasing safety and wellness in the Nation’s community. The Nisg̱a’a VAWIR Committee is a key component in the overall framework to create family wellness for the people of the Nisg̱a’a Nation. Their collaborative and respectful approach exemplifies the spirit of the Bystander engagement model as they work towards creating a safer community for all.
