Ottawa announces new $3.9 million workplace sexual harassment prevention program

Canada’s federal Minister of Labour Filomena Tassi announced a new workplace sexual harassment prevention training program today that will be delivered to over 10,000 workers who are employed on B.C.’s waterfronts.

The B.C. Maritime Employers Association was given $3.9 million in federal funding in 2019 to address prevention training as part of Canada’s Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention Fund. The new training program was also launched with the help of the International Longshore & Warehouse Union Canada and Ending Violence Association of B.C.

“With a mandate to train more than 10,000 people spanning union and management workers, this is one of the largest workplace violence and harassment prevention training programs ever undertaken in the province.” – Tracy Porteous, Executive Director of the Ending Violence Association of B.C.
