K.G.B. Statements and Violence Against Women

A K.G.B. statement is an initial statement that a victim makes to police (sometimes videotaped). It may then be used in court in lieu of her direct testimony provided certain strict conditions are met. To date K.G.B. statements in spouse abuse cases have not been used widely in Canada; however, this may be a strategy for increasing women’s safety. Handout includes information on a pilot project and questions for discussion/ request for feedback on this issue.
