Introduction to Sexual Assault is a one-hour course designed for healthcare professionals. It focuses specifically on the issue of sexual assault – what is consent, what is sexual assault, how you can respond to a disclosure of sexual assault, how to support survivors, provide them with options, make an effective referral, and care for yourself.
Identifying, Responding to and Addressing the Impacts of Gender-Based Violence is an online course for healthcare professionals. It consists of three modules:
- Identifying Gender-Based Violence
- Responding to Gender-Based Violence
- Addressing the Impacts of Gender-Based Violence on Health Sector Workers (vicarious trauma, violence in the workplace, your employer’s obligations, etc.)
Each module is 30 to 60 minutes long depending on your level of engagement.
The Concussion Awareness Training Tool is a two-hour online course designed to provide healthcare professionals with the information they need to provide evidence-based care for patients who have sustained a concussion.
This course is accredited by the University of British Columbia Division of Continuing Professional Development.
Intro to Gender Diversity – Expanded is a one-hour course designed for healthcare professionals, service providers and staff who engage directly with clients, patients, and their families.
Indigenous Gender Diversity: Creating Culturally Relevant and Gender-Affirming Services is a three-hour online course designed to provide healthcare professionals and staff with the awareness, knowledge, and skills to improve service access for gender diverse Indigenous people.

This workshop provides information about the social context of sexual assault, the impacts of sexual assault and trauma, responding to disclosures best practices and reporting options.
Community Coordination Training
Many communities will have a type of coordination committee that works with local service providers to improve services and enhance safety for all survivors. The focus of this workshop is on building or revitalizing and sustaining local coordination initiatives to address gender-based violence.

Gender-Affirming Primary Care is a 60 to 90-minute Continuing Medical Education (CME) accredited online medical education course designed to provide primary care providers with the knowledge and skills to improve the care of gender diverse patients.
ECHO Trans Care BC — Gender-Affirming Primary Care is a 9 hour, Zoom-based, advanced medical training course that equips providers to support transgender, Two-Spirit, and non-binary patients. This free course has been certified by UBC Continuing Professional Development for 9 Mainpro+ credits.

The British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) Forensic Nurse Examiner Education for RNs microcredential teaches you how to care for sexual assault survivors while preserving evidence. It includes two online courses – recognized by BC health authorities – that provide registered nurses with education to work as a Forensic Nurse Examiner and perform the role of a sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE).
Healthcare professionals (RNs, NPs and Physicians) can become qualified to conduct forensic examinations with the Fast track to Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) training course.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed a free online course – Health Sector Response to Violence Against Women. This course is designed to increase the capacity of healthcare professionals to identify and support survivors that have experienced intimate partner violence or sexual assault. This course consists of six interactive sessions that include reading materials, exercises, case studies and a final assessment for a course certificate.

Living in Community (LIC) is a provincial non-profit organization and registered charity that is working to collaboratively improve the health and safety of sex workers and address community concerns.
LIC offers online courses on:
- Creating new perspective on sex workers’ safety and acceptance in society.
- How to approach and provide health and social services to sex workers.
- Human trafficking and how to support survivors.
The BC Network of Child and Youth Advocacy Centres (CYACs) represents children and youth who have experienced abuse in British Columbia. The BC Network of CYACs advocates for improvements to the way systems respond to abuse, and coordinated and comprehensive services.
The BC Network of CYACs published the first edition of the BC Network of Child and Youth Advocacy Centre Practice Principles. The purpose of this manual is to support the practice of professionals in four areas: interviewing children and youth, case management, health services and mental health services.
