There are many community-based sexual assault programs throughout BC that provide emotional support and counselling services to survivors of sexual violence including:

  • Sexual Assault Centres:
    • New funding was established in 2023 for sexual assault centres in Vancouver, Victoria, Kamloops, Prince George, and Surrey. Read the news release here. The Victoria Sexual Assault Centre is fully operational and 4 more centres are in development.
    • Information will be updated as more centres open.  
  • EVA BC has a service directory of programs that provide support to anyone who has experienced sexualized violence including:
    • Sexual Assault Services (SAS) programs:
      • Sexual assault services programs provide crisis intervention, hospital and police accompaniment, emotional support, and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. Some of the programs will have a counselling portion.
    • Community-Based Victim Services (CBVS) programs:
      • Community-Based Victim Services (CBVS) programs provide crucial emotional support, information, referrals, justice system support, and liaison services for survivors of sexual assault, violence in relationships, and violence against children and youth.
      • Some specialized programs provide support to survivors of violence with specific needs, such as adult male survivors and survivors from Indigenous and multicultural communities.
    • Stopping the Violence Counselling (STVC) programs:
      • These programs provide essential counselling and support including information, referrals, and in some cases, system liaison services for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence in relationships, and/or childhood abuse.
    • Stopping the Violence (STV) Outreach (ORS) and Multicultural Outreach (MORS) programs:
      • These programs respond to the needs of adult women and their dependent children who have experienced or are at risk of violence. Programs support women to identify and access the services they need. They provide counselling, referral to other community services, and assistance with systems such as child protection and family court.
