September 30 is Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. EVA BC’s office will be closed on Monday, October 2, in observance of the day.
Since last year this date is now an official statutory holiday in Canada and in 2023, BC officially enshrined the day in provincial law.
We know that Indigenous women and girls and Two-Spirit folks are particularly impacted by gender-based violence, harassment and hate, and we highlight the importance of the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) Calls for Justice.
There’s a lot you can do this week and over the weekend to reflect, learn and honour this national day:
- Across the province
- National options
- And it’s always good to review and reflect on the Truth and Reconciliation of Canada’s Calls to Action.
- You can find a lot of accessible and helpful educational material and resources at Reconciliation Education
