PEACE/STV Counsellor (Full Time)
North Island Crisis & Counselling Centre

 

Responsibilities:

This 35 hour per week position is a hybrid role providing direct counselling services to both the PEACE program (.6FTE) and the Stop the Violence women’s program (.4FTE). The candidate will provide individual counselling for children and youth between the ages of 4-18 years who have experienced and/or witnessed family violence and will also provide direct counselling services for women who are living in, at risk of or have experienced domestic violence. As an important part of our counselling team, the successful candidate will provide client assessment, case management and referral services for clients accessing counselling services. Drop in counselling, group facilitation and crisis response may also be required when necessary.

Duties may include developing and delivering public awareness/information sessions and educational support materials on relevant topics. The successful candidate will maintain positive relationships with other service providers, schools and our agency team. It is critical that the successful candidate be able to demonstrate ethical thinking, have knowledge of trauma informed practice, respecting the diversity of our North Island community.

 

Required Qualifications:

A degree in Counselling or related field, and/or an appropriate combination of education and training is required.  Should have demonstrated knowledge and understanding in the area of child and youth development, mental health and family violence. In addition, related experience working with young people between the ages of 4 and 18 years as well as women who have experienced intimate partner violence would be valuable.  Preference may be given to applicants who have a minimum of two years’ experience in providing direct counselling with children, youth and women. Other assets for consideration may include art and play therapy experience; training in trauma informed practice; knowledge of Indigenous culture; and experience working as a contributing member of a multi-disciplinary team.

A valid driver’s license and own vehicle, as well as a successful completion of a criminal record check are required.  As a member of our team you will receive an excellent benefits package and work in a very positive supportive and flexible environment.

 

Wage Range: $65,000 – $70,000/annually
