Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Coordinator to join EQUIP Health Care.
The overarching goal of our health equity research program is to contribute, apply and mobilize new knowledge related to implementation of equity-oriented care in a range of diverse health and social service settings, with a particular focus on improving care for marginalized populations, and the policy and funding environments needed to support such programming. Marginalized in this context refers to the social, economic, and political conditions that contribute to health and health care inequities, and to the disproportionate effects of such inequities on particular populations.
The Coordinator will be based in our Research Unit (Critical Research in Health and Healthcare Inequities) at the UBC School of Nursing in Vancouver, BC. The Coordinator will be responsible for facilitating research and knowledge mobilization activities across a range of current and future funded projects collectively known as the EQUIP Research Program. The Coordinator will work across projects with a focus on a Public Health Agency of Canada funded project focused on equipping the gender-based violence sector for substance use health. Through this project, we will engage with a variety of service providers, policy makers, and people with lived experience of gender-based violence and lived experience of substance use stigma to develop resources that support substance use health and equity-oriented services.
Organizational Status
The Coordinator will report directly to the (a) EQUIP Research Manager and (b) Principal Investigators/EQUIP Co-Leads. The Coordinator will communicate with project partners and project assistants as needed.
Work Performed
- Demonstrate leadership in developing a communications plan; make recommendations and decisions on communications activities
- Design and facilitate approach to community engagement in partnership with local community agencies to ensure effectiveness of meetings
- Develop presentations, and reviews of literature needed to support project activities; translate research findings to multiple audiences
- Develop workplan for knowledge mobilization activities
- Develop evaluation framework and monitor and report on knowledge mobilization activities to ensure the quality of project outputs including research reports, policy briefs, media communications, and the EQUIP website; make and implement decisions based on evaluation findings
- Draft communications products, including project summaries, policy-briefs, media announcements, press releases
- Provide direction to and work with contractors (e.g. graphic designers, animators) to develop knowledge mobilization products
- Develop and monitor budget for resource co-design activities and community site assessments; responsible for overseeing community site assessment budgets and coordinating expense reimbursements and disbursement of honoraria
- Develop and maintain systems to track the impact of knowledge translation activities in the media, policy contexts, healthcare and the community; make and implement decisions based on findings
- Facilitate meetings with partners including community-based organizations and community advisors; Identify themes emerging from consultation activities and make changes to knowledge products based on feedback received and identified themes
- Oversee and make decisions on logistics such as meeting scheduling and related communications, and agenda-setting
- Perform other related duties as required

Consequence of Error/Judgement
The quality and productivity of the research program, the uptake of our findings in health services, academic and policy sectors, the research team’s community-level, national and international partnerships and communication will be affected. The work of the Coordinator must be completed at a high level of accuracy and efficiency. Errors could seriously jeopardize the professional, academic and public credibility of UBC and EQUIP.

Research Manager and the EQUIP Co-Leads will provide direct supervision.

The Coordinator may contribute to training of research assistants. May be required to oversee staff assisting with project activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one’s own
- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one’s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications
- 4 years experience preferred
- Demonstrated project coordination experience, strong communication skills, excellent administrative skills, experience working with community-based organizations, interdisciplinary research teams
- Experience contributing to research reports, web-based communications, media releases, and academic publications
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people of diverse backgrounds, including people experiencing violence, trauma and major health and social inequities, and service providers experiencing secondary traumas, among others
- Education, training and experience in research settings preferred
- Demonstrated experience in project coordination, community-based participatory knowledge mobilization strategies, development of knowledge mobilization strategies and resources to meet the needs of diverse audiences and priorities
- Demonstrated excellence in written products such as research reports, policy briefs, media briefs, academic papers, and electronic communication
- Proficiency in Excel
- Experience with Adobe design suite and WordPress preferred
- Administrative experience and skills in knowledge translation
- Knowledge of principles and approaches to engaging in research and knowledge mobilization with diverse community-based organizations preferred
- Knowledge and experience relevant to harm reduction and gender-based violence services preferred
- Demonstrated initiative and willingness to work closely with members of a research team and community partners to ensure problems are resolved quickly and appropriately
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills
- Proven ability to coordinate project activities in fast-paced health care settings
- Possesses a collaborative, team-focused working style;
- Ability to be self-directed, and to work both independently and within a team environment
- Ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks

- Compensation Range: $5,365.42 – $7,709.92 CAD Monthly

The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
