ABOUT THE COMMUNITY

The village of Salmo is a diverse, rural community nestled between three major service centers in the West Kootenay region of BC.  For a population of 1100, it boasts an array of businesses and services. Only its generous community spirit exceeds Salmo’s numerous outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, biking, golfing and skiing.

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The permanent, part-time Executive Director (.80 FTE) provides overall strategic and operational leadership for the organization. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that programs and services are delivered effectively, that the organization remains financially and operationally sound, and that its mission and values are reflected in every aspect of its work. This role requires a leader who can think strategically, build strong relationships, and inspire collaboration among staff, community partners, and the Board to achieve shared goals for community well-being.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership and Strategy
    • Provide visionary and strategic leadership aligned with the organization’s mission and values.
      Lead the implementation of the strategic plan and ensure progress toward key goals and outcomes.
      Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and respect.
  • Governance and Board Relations
    • Support and advise the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.
      Provide timely and accurate reports to the Board on operations, finances, and programs.
      Foster strong, transparent, and trusting relationships with the Board and committees.
  • Financial Management
    • Oversee development and management of the annual budget and financial policies.
      Ensure fiscal responsibility, transparency, and compliance with funding requirements.
      Work with staff and the Board to identify new funding opportunities and maintain diverse revenue streams.
  • Fund Development and Community Engagement
    • Lead fund development activities, including donor relations, grant writing, sponsorships, and fundraising events.
      Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for the organization.
      Build partnerships with funders, government, community organizations, and local leaders.
  • Operations and Human Resources
    • Oversee the effective and efficient management of all programs and services.
      Supervise and support staff, encouraging professional growth and well-being.
      Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience
    • Post-secondary education in social sciences, business administration, community development or a related field (graduate degree preferred).
    • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit or community-based social services.

COMPENSATION

Salmo Community Services offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes extended health benefits, RRSP contributions, vacation, etc. Salary range is $70,000 to $75,700 per annum (.80 FTE).
