Reports to:  Manager of Fund Development

Program/ Department: Fund Development and Communications

Start Date: End of February/Beginning of March

Application Deadline: Open until filled

Full Time: 35hrs/week, 4 days/week between Monday and Friday

Schedule can change to accommodate operational needs.

Pay rate: $26.50/hr

This is a U5 Step 1 rate as per the salary scale as stated in the Collective Agreement between Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre and MoveUP (COPE, Local 378).

Union: This is a Unionized position. Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s Union Representation is with MoveUP, (COPE, Local 378).

Remote Working: Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre is a hybrid workplace. The Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator is eligible to work remotely with some in-office and/or in person activities as directed by management.

Job Summary

The Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator secures major gifts for Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre  through the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals and private funder applications. Working in collaboration with the Fund Development and Finance Teams, the Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator produces and collaborates on various stewardship, donor engagement and donor pipeline development activities. As a member of the Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre team, the Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator will actively engage in events, social justice activities and other related community work.

The Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator is a member of MoveUP and their work is informed by the Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre Collective Agreement.

 

Organizational Status  

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre is a feminist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing not-for-profit organization who changes society through advocacy, outreach and education. Operating on unceded Coast Salish Territories, Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre advocates for and provides counselling and victim services support to survivors of all marginalized genders who have experienced violence in intimate relationships, sexual assault, and/or childhood sexual abuse. Committed to being aware of and mitigating the power dynamics informed by intersectional identities, Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre staff are called to enhance connections and collaboration and promote an atmosphere of safety in all aspects of their work. Work Performed

Major Gift Solicitation and Acquisition 

  • Complete annual government, foundation, corporate and individual funding applications and reporting
  • Oversee and manage the grant and proposal applications process with support from the Manager of Fund Development
  • Tracks and organizes information related to grant status, communicates reporting requirements and grant deliverables to appropriate staff
  • Meet or exceed assigned Major Gift fundraising goals as outlined in the Fund Development Budget
    Fund Development
  • Collaborate with Fund Development team around annual planning and the execution of the overall annual Fund Development plan
  • Grow Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s Major Donor portfolio through the qualification of new prospects
  • Support Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre leadership by ensuring all proposals are properly recorded in Raiser’s
  • Edge at each stage of the solicitation process
  • Support Fund Development Team with pipeline development through the analysis of Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s donor pool
  • Work with the Board of Directors on board-led fundraising
  • Prepare internal reports about the program for the Board, Annual General Meeting, and other publications and documents as required
  • Donor Relationship Management
  • Support Manager of Fund Development managing relationships with Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s Major Donors
  • Execute Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s stewardship strategy for Major Donors, ensuring donors receive personalized correspondence, funding reports and updates in a timely manner
  • Act as the primary contact for donor relations supporting the Communications & Engagement Coordinator

 

Operations

  • Attend all required Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre team meetings (e.g. staff meetings, training)
  • Participate on a minimum of one Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre committee
  • Participate in supervised settings with Manager of Fund Development as required
  • Participate in yearly performance appraisal
  • Ensure responsible use of Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre resources
  • Adhere to all Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre policies and procedures
  • Perform other related duties as required by the Manager of Fund Development

 

Working Conditions

Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre acknowledges that our work environment is directly impacted by all forms of oppression and the impact of colonialism. In this role, the Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator will frequently witness the impact that violence has on Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre’s service users and, by extension, the staff.

The pace of work for the Grants & Major Gifts Coordinator is not always controlled by the employee. This position is frequently faced with multiple demands/tasks with time pressures to finish.

 

Consequences of Error/Judgement

This position requires judgment, tact, discretion, and initiative. Errors may result in moderate cost, loss of time and/or may impact the effectiveness and ability to continue operation of certain programs for clients, which could damage the reputation of the organization. Poor judgement or ineffective communications with relevant institutions, community partners, and clients could result in strained relations that compromise the effectiveness and credibility of Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field (e.g. communications, development), or equivalent combination of experience and education
  • 3-5 years of recent related experience, including grant writing and donor development generating revenue growth.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders and other community agencies in a collaborative, cooperative, professional, and respectful manner
  • Experience working with Raiser’s Edge or knowledge of donor management software
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience in working within an anti-oppressive, intersectional feminist framework or approach
  • Experience working or volunteering in a social services agency is an asset
  • Demonstrated success in working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds (e.g. cultural, religious, age, sexual orientation, etc.).
  • Satisfactory completion of a criminal record check with vulnerable populations

 

Skills & Knowledge 

  • Committed to the ongoing development of feminist, anti-oppressive, decolonizing practice
  • Knowledge of the provincial not-for-profit and anti-violence sectors, foundations, granting agencies and philanthropic community across British Columbia, an asset
  • Able to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to identify problems and demonstrate resourcefulness and creativity in solving them
  • Able to set goals, create and implement action plans, monitor progress towards goals and the process and results
  • Excellent communicator (both verbal and written)
  • Recognizes the risks and vulnerabilities associated with the work Salal Sexual Violence Support Centre does and takes responsibility for their own mental and physical health through an ongoing commitment to personal and professional development
  • Champions positive working relationships with a diverse set of colleagues, volunteers and both internal and external stakeholders
