Salary Range: $70,000.00 – $80,000.00 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week

 

About the AMS SASC

The Sexual Assault Support Centre (SASC) at UBC is a part of the AMS, the Student Society of UBC Vancouver. The SASC is a professional service that has been operating since 2002. SASC has been committed to providing support services to people of all genders and identities who have been impacted by sexualized violence, including their support people. The SASC approaches sexual violence prevention through education, to shift perspectives and address systemic barriers, while also providing people with tools to respond supportively to those who are impacted.

 

Position Purpose

We’re currently looking for an experienced individual for the position of the SASC Manager. Working within an intersectional, anti-oppressive framework, the SASC Manager is responsible for the operation of the AMS Sexual Assault Support Centre in the AMS Student Nest at UBC Vancouver, providing support for survivors of sexual assault, advocating for university support for those experiencing sexualized violence, and raising the profile of the issue of sexual assault to the AMS membership and the UBC Community.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise the SASC team which includes all SASC staff, volunteers and practicum students.
  • Oversee the provision of immediate and on-going support and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault and/or violence, their family members, friends, and other support providers.
  • Oversee the provision of crisis support to survivors and facilitate case consultation meetings with the
  • Support and Advocacy program workers and case collaboration meetings with external agencies, as needed
  • Oversee, evaluate and implement the provision of legal, medical, and campus-related advocacy and accompaniments for clients when appropriate.
  • Perform full cycle recruitment, training, evaluation, scheduling and performance management.
  • Shape the vision and direction of the SASC in conjunction with the SASC team, Executive Committee and the Senior Manager, Student Services.
  • Develop, implement, and administer outreach and education programs.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on policies addressing sexualized violence.
  • Develop and oversee the community engagement, social media engagement, promotions and marketing vision of the centre.
  • Develop, connect and liaise with public education workshops opportunities and initiatives for the SASC
  • In conjunction with UBC campus partners, develop, implement, and advocate for a campus coordinated response to sexual assaults.
  • Advise the President and Executive Committee on issues relating to sexual assaults.
  • Liaise with UBC and related student service programs at other universities to develop best practices.
  • Perform and produce work that is consistent with the values of the SASC and the AMS of UBC Vancouver.
  • Build and maintain program budgets, write grant applications, fundraising
  • Provide quarterly and annual reports to the Executive Committee.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned from time to time.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of management experience overseeing both unionized and non-unionized staff and volunteers.
  • A strong understanding and proven experience working with a multidisciplinary team providing trauma informed care.
  • Specialized knowledge of sexualized violence and abusive relationships, including legal and medical systems, resources and procedures.
  • Experience liaising and collaborating with diverse community partners that will include RCMP, VPD, criminal justice system, hospitals and community based organizations.
  • Strong understanding of anti-oppression perspectives and approaches in relation to sexualized violence and abuse for all persons.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Relevant post-secondary education and/or combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Previous experience/formal training providing direct and specialized support to survivors of sexual violence including support group facilitation.
  • Case consultation, clinical supervision and counseling experience with support staff.
  • Experience working within a feminist and/or social justice organization.
  • Well organized, flexible, self-motivated and able to work and make decisions independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience with community engagement and relationship building.
  • High level of comfort and proficiency in public speaking.
  • Experience speaking to media and acting as public representative.
  • Experience working within an educational context, and/or within the UBC campus community is an asset.
  • Experience in curriculum development and facilitating workshops an asset.
  • Experience with case management databases an asset.
  • Experience in program development an asset.
  • Experience working with volunteers an asset.
