Researcher - Contract Position (Part-time)
Vancouver & Lower Mainland Multicultural Family Services Support Society (VLMMFSS)

Leading the implementation of the research component for the Enhancing Wellness – M4Y Project, the contracted Researcher works under supervision to carry out all key research phases of VLMFSS’s 5-year project, Enhancing Wellness-M4Y, funded by Public Safety Canada.

The purpose of the project is to identify impacts and highlight coping strategies of immigrant women and youth at the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic and family/gender-based/intimate partner violence. Research will inform the development of an interactive app to enhance safety, mental health and crime prevention.

Key deliverables include:

  • Finalizing Literature Review (already underway)
  • Developing Facilitator’s Guides for focus groups (hosted in-person and virtually)
  • Attending all focus groups to record and gather data
  • Conducting data analysis: quantitative and qualitative
  • Producing publication-ready articles on research findings
  • Disseminating findings as required

The Researcher will be part of the EW-M4Y project team and is expected to work in a collaborative and respectful manner to implement the project work plan. This is a hybrid position that will combine working by remote and working at the office located in the Metrotown area of Burnaby. Flexibility to travel outside the Lower Mainland for focus groups will also be needed.

Qualifications

  • The Researcher must have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in academic research and/or relevant field experience, including firsthand experience gathering data from focus groups.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an understanding of gender-based violence, familiarity with culturally responsive practices and/or tech safety knowledge; experience working with immigrant and refugee populations.
  • This position requires the ability to travel outside the Lower Mainland for several days at a time, as needed, to be on site for focus groups held outside the Lower Mainland in the Okanagan, Fraser Valley and Southern Vancouver Island regions.
  • Strong oral and written skills in English are required.

 

Hours and Remuneration

  • This is a 1-year contract position with the possibility of renewal.
  • The Contractor will work an average of 25 hours per week on a flexible basis adapted to meetproject needs, to a maximum of 1,300 hours in a 52-week period.
  • Hourly rate of $60 per hour + GST
  • No benefits, including vacation, statutory holidays, medical or dental are attached to this position.
