Residential Programs Supervisor
Victoria Women's Transition House

Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) is looking for a dynamic, full-time (35 hours per week) Residential Programs Supervisor to join our evolving team.

We are a non-profit charity, providing emergency shelter, counselling and support services for women of all ages, with or without children, fleeing from intimate partner violence and abuse. We are a vibrant, collaborative community looking for exceptional people to help us grow as we work towards our mission of ending intimate partner violence.

 

Details of the Position:  The Residential Programs Supervisor provides oversite of assigned outreach programs and staff, mainly within the residential context. May include other services mandated by contracts with provincial government ministries. Tasks to include support and supervision of program staff in the delivery of services.  This position works to ensure effective program/service delivery consistent with organization mandate and policy, legal, contractual, budgetary and other requirements.  Some of the key responsibilities:

  • Oversee the scheduling of program staff. In consultation with Managers, will participate in human resource activities, including hiring, training, supervision, performance appraisal, discipline, grievance resolution, arbitration and discharge
  • Provides active supervision to assigned program staff, including support, information, training, and case consultation.  Monitors the service delivery of staff and volunteers to ensure a high level of consistency and quality of service.
  • Adheres to Health and Safety requirements in compliance with Provincial and Agency policies and procedures. When required, will be the management representative on the JOHS committee.
  • In consultation with Leadership Team and program staff, will develop and establishes standards and accountability mechanisms for residential and assigned outreach programs. Recommends long-range plans and objectives in programs delivery.
  • Maintains effective relationships with community groups.  Liaises with community organizations to coordinate provision of services and resolve program delivery issues.
  • Prepares reports and will makes presentations as required.  Engages in ongoing education regarding intimate partner violence.

 

Qualifications:  Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (social work, psychology, counselling). The position requires a thorough knowledge of intimate partner violence, feminist perspective counselling approach.  Extensive program development and supervisory experience in management in a unionized environment is an asset.  The successful candidate will have:

  • A dedication to ongoing education and development
  • Three to five years of Leadership experience in the community social service sector
  • Excellent oral, written, facilitation and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and administrative skills including client data system.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Ability to function independently and collaboratively while managing multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

 

This position supports an essential service working with direct client contact and requires satisfactory completion of a criminal records search, TB test and Standard First Aid Certificate.
