The South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) respectfully acknowledges that they work on the traditional unceded territories of the Sylix Okanagan peoples.

Located in the beautiful Okanagan Valley, SOWINS is a non-profit society providing safe refuge and community-based resources for women and children in the South Okanagan. SOWINS operates a transitional and second stage housing facilities, as well as counselling and outreach services. At SOWINS we work from an intersectional feminist philosophy and support trauma-informed practice and harm reduction models. SOWINS is seeking a part-time Sexual Assault Support Coordinator to join the Team at the Administration Office.

The South Okanagan Women in Need Society (SOWINS) is seeking a temporary part-time STV Counsellor to join the Counselling Team at the Administration Office.

 

ABOUT THE ROLE: The STV Counsellor provides individual and group counselling and additional supports to women who have been victims of various forms of abuse – or at risk of experiencing abuse.  This may include, but not limited to physical abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, psychological abuse, and/or sexual assault. Services are provided from a feminist and trauma-based perspective while encompassing the principles of the client centered approach.  Counselling uses techniques such as therapeutic group counselling and self-skill workshops.

 

Schedule: This is a temporary part-time position and works an average of 28 hours per week (7 hours/day x 4 days a week). The scheduled shifts for this position will be Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

 

Term: This is a temporary position with an expected end date of March 2024.

 

Union: This position requires union membership, under Health Sciences Association (HSA).

 

Wage: $37.55 – $47.46 depending on length of service (HSA Grid 14P).

Start date: ASAP.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferably master’s degree) in related field – human/social services, psychology, or counselling.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR Level C.
  • Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience working with women who have experienced violence or abuse.
  • Two (2) years recent experience working with codependency, violence in relationships, boundaries, and trauma.
