“Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) is looking for outstanding Women’s Counsellor(s) to join our growing team.
We are a non-profit charity, providing emergency shelter, counselling and support services for women of all ages, with or without children, fleeing from intimate partner violence and abuse. We are a vibrant, collaborative community looking for exceptional people to help us grow as we work towards our mission of ending intimate partner violence.
Details of the Position:
The Women’s Counsellor assists and supports clients to identify and understand the issues of abuse in their relationship. The counsellor is responsible for the implementation and ongoing service delivery of our programs. Some of the key responsibilities include:
• screening and orientation of residents
• providing counselling, support and crisis intervention
• facilitation of support group
• advocacy and liaising support

Qualifications:
A Degree in social work, counseling or a related field and a minimum of one year recent related work in similar environment is required (or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience). Direct program delivery experience in the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs. The successful candidate will excellent have:
• Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organization, time and general management skills
• Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques
• The ability to work effectively with other program staff, therapists, social workers, and other related personnel.
This position supports an essential service working with direct client contact and requires union membership, satisfactory completion of a criminal records search, TB test and Standard First Aid Certificate.
Wage and Benefits:
This is a union position and starts at $25.56 per hour and an excellent benefits package.
