New Interagency Case Assessment Team (ICAT) Best Practices Manual coming this fall

The Community Coordination for Survivor Safety (CCSS) Team is excited to launch the new Interagency Case Assessment Team Best Practices: Working Together to Reduce the Risk of Intimate Partner Violence manual this fall.

What is an ICAT

An ICAT is a formalized group made up of Community-Based Victim Services (CBVS) workers, police, Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) staff, probation/corrections workers, and others who connect and support survivors. ICATs work together to respond to “highest risk cases of intimate partner violence” where there is a likely risk of “serious bodily harm or death,” and provide coordinated risk management for those cases with a priority of enhancing survivor safety.

There are over 50 ICATs in BC.

What’s new in the third edition of the ICAT Best Practices manual?

Here are the key highlights of the new manual:

  • Improved visual elements and formatting for better flow and accessibility.
  • Includes the latest 2021 version of the BC Summary of Intimate Partner Violence Risk Factors (SIPVR).
  • Content updates, including all the ICAT forms and relevant anti-violence and police-specific acronyms.
  • QR codes that direct you to fillable and printable PDF versions of all the ICAT forms.

ICAT Training

CCSS offers ICAT Training for ICAT member agencies as well as referral community service providers and system partners who work directly with intimate partner violence (IPV) survivors or perpetrators.

The training focuses on how to identify and refer IPV cases to an ICAT, IPV risk factors, the ICAT process, how to share information legally and ethically, and how to collaborate to increase safety through the ICAT process.

We will hold an online ICAT training in November.

If your community is interested in taking part in an ICAT training session, please contact ccss@endingviolence.org
