In February 2026, EVA BC welcomed visitors from Wales, Alice Churm, Fairness and Belonging Lead, and Sean Finnigan, Learning Support Manager, from Cambria College | Coleg Cambria, a “further education” school in North Wales. Alice and Sean visited EVA BC alongside their local host, Trina Prince, Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Director at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. The visit was an opportunity to learn more about EVA BC’s work to prevent gender-based violence, while also sharing insights about their own work in Wales.

In their roles, Alice and Sean support positive school cultures among their students aged 16 to 18 attending the colleges — students typically begin college earlier in Wales than in Canada. This visit builds on ongoing international collaboration. EVA BC first connected with CollegesWales, an education charity that promotes ongoing education in Wales, through a learning exchange last year, followed by a visit to Wales last October by Ashley Humphrys, EVA BC’s Manager of Social Enterprise. During that trip, CollegesWales featured our Be More Than a Bystander program.

The gathering was part of a shared learning for a transnational Community of Practice (CoP), made up of post-secondary institutions in Wales and Canada. It created a space to exchange knowledge, strengthen international relationships, and reflect on how shared learning can drive positive change in both countries.

Building on this momentum, EVA BC is now adapting the Be More Than a Bystander program in a train-the-trainer model for instructors in thirteen colleges in Wales, equipping them to bring the program directly to their students in the trades.

In Vancouver, Alice Churm shared her powerful presentation, Into The Manosphere: Online Misogynistic Cultures, that highlighted how online misogyny is impacting young people and influencing behaviour. EVA BC staff shared their experiences with our Be More Than a Bystander program for high school students, and our core work to support frontline anti-violence workers and coordinate across sectors to support survivors and shift attitudes to prevent gender-based violence. Both groups gained awareness, shared understanding, and were inspired by the sense of connection between our programs from different parts of the world.
