Child and Family Therapist/Counsellor

Victoria Child Abuse Prevention & Counselling Centre (VCAPCC) is posting for the position of Child and Family Therapist. This is a unionized (BCGEU) position, to provide therapy and education to children, youth and families who have experienced abuse or where abuse is suspected and to provide information, education and training regarding abuse issues to individuals and groups in the community.

 

Qualifications

What you bring:

  • M.S.W, M.A, M.Ed, M.Sc
  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience working with trauma in an interdisciplinary setting that includes experience with individuals, families and group work; program and community development using evidence based and client centered interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Art and Play Therapy, etc
  • Experience with assessment, treatment plan development and clinical note taking
  • Commitment to Agency policies and practices as expected by accreditors, funders and management
  • Excellent organization, ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to create and maintain a welcoming, friendly, safe and respectful environment which affirms and promotes the dignity of children and adults with diverse backgrounds, interests and needs and reinforces socially responsible behaviour.
  • In depth knowledge or experience in brief evidence-based therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Systems Theory, Solution-Focused Therapy, Group Therapy, abuse dynamics, family systems and mental health issues
  • Knowledge of the UN rights of the child, the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA) and legal systems including the Family Law Act
  • Demonstration of strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work independently as well as and engage actively in a professional team setting.
  • Good self-care skills and ability to engage in healthy life-work integration practices
  • Registration with a College or Professional Association

 

What we offer:
This position is paid at CSSEA/BCGEU Grid 16-P, a starting hourly rate of $37.66-$46.15, depending on step level and should see a significant increase when the new collective agreement is finalized. As a Union member you can expect yearly raises, employer paid health and welfare benefits (after a probationary period of 455hrs), job security, and eligibility for the Municipal Pension Plan after 2 years of continuous employment. The agency offers stability, security and a team of skilled counsellors for peer support, ongoing training opportunities, and regular supervision to ensure the health and safety of all team members.

This position is open to all genders. Hours of work offered are 28 hours per week, 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday, or Tuesday-Friday (to be discussed during the interview) at VCAPCC’s main downtown office located at 101-1208 Wharf Street.
