This is a permanent 35 hour per week full time position joining our well-established counselling team. The Women’s STV Counsellor provides individual and group counselling for women who have experienced sexual assault, intimate partner violence/domestic abuse in their relationships, or childhood abuse. The Women’s Counsellor assists women in identifying, understanding, and overcoming the effects of violence in their lives.  The position works closely with the Women’s Safe Shelter program.
Responsibilities include providing individual counselling and emotional support to women, developing and delivering community awareness/information sessions and educational support materials as needed; maintaining collaborative and positive relationships with other service providers and agency team. It is critical that this person be able to demonstrate ethical thinking, work from a trauma informed lens, and embrace working in a beautiful remote and rural community.
Qualifications:
A degree in Counselling or related field, or an appropriate combination of education and training. Should have sound knowledge and understanding in the area of violence against women and children. Preferred background should include direct counselling experience with women who have experienced abuse. Other assets would be analysis, knowledge and training in trauma counselling; knowledge of First Nations culture; experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
A valid driver’s license and own vehicle, as well as a successful completion of a criminal record check are required. As an employee, you will have the opportunity to work with a strong counselling team and work in a professional, supportive, fun and flexible environment.
