Schedule: Generally weekdays during business hours, with exact schedule to be negotiated with successful applicant. Afterhours on-call for residential programs, shared. This position may require working outside of regular office hours, such as evenings and weekends, as determined by program needs.
Location: Salmon Arm, BC
Start date: September 1, 2026 or as soon as possible after this date
End date: Upon incumbent’s return to the position, expected late October 2027, with possibility of extension to permanent
Wages and Benefits: $46.35-$59.23 per hour. Extended Health, Group Life Insurance, EFAP, AD&D and Long-Term Disability are provided upon completion of the probationary period. Municipal Pension Plan is also provided once eligible, as per SAFE policy.

The Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (SAFE Society) is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and community‑minded Executive Coordinator to Programming and Community Development. This leadership role supports our mission of ending violence in the Shuswap by strengthening trauma-informed, culturally safe services for survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and other forms of abuse.
Located in the beautiful Secwépemcul’ecw (Shuswap) region of British Columbia, the Shuswap Area Family Emergency Society (SAFE Society) is a registered charitable society that provides a broad spectrum of services to persons who are impacted by abuse. The SAFE Society works from an intersectional feminist and trauma-informed philosophy.
The Executive Coordinator provides oversight to a range of community and residential programs within a BCGEU‑represented environment and plays a key role in community coordination, partnership building, and systems advocacy.
About the Role
The Executive Coordinator works closely with the Executive Director, HR Manager, Finance Manager, and Program Coordinators to ensure programs are delivered safely, ethically, and in alignment with:
- The BCGEU Collective Agreement
- Organizational policies and procedures
- Relevant legislation
- Trauma-informed, culturally safe, and anti‑oppressive practices
This position also represents the Society on several community committees and contributes to a coordinated community response to gender‑based violence.

Key Responsibilities
- Program & Service Delivery
- Ensure programs operate in alignment with mission, mandates, legislation, and collective agreement requirements.
- Support contract compliance, program evaluation, and quality improvement.
- Collaborate with staff and program leadership to ensure trauma-informed service provision, including oversight and accountability mechanisms.
- Trauma-informed Leadership
- Provide supportive supervision that prioritizes psychological safety and reflective practice.
- Foster team cohesion, mentorship, and wellness.
- Recognize and respond to vicarious trauma, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
- Labour Relations & HR
- Participate in recruitment, orientation, performance evaluation, investigations and corrective discipline in accordance with the BCGEU collective agreement.
- Support grievance processes, investigations, and labour‑management relations.
- Collaborate with HR and senior leadership on labour relations matters.
- Support HR and Program Coordinators in personnel management including scheduling functions and payroll management using
- PayWorks payroll software, in accordance with BCGEU Collective Agreement.
- Leadership & Administration
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning as part of the Leadership Team.
- Co‑chair the Health & Safety Committee.
- Assist with program budgets and reporting to funders.
- Provide backup support to Residential Programs, including emergency response.
- Knowledge of executive office operation and general office duties including experience with filing and secretarial procedures.
- Excellent typing and document/report preparation and layout.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computers and various word processing, spreadsheets, databases and other application software and web-based applications.
- Attend Board meetings and community committees as required.
- Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with community partners, government officials, donors, and stakeholders.
- Represent the Society at events, presentations, and community initiatives.
- Support public education, awareness campaigns, and violence prevention activities.
- Participate in cross-sectoral collaboration initiatives and committees, as appropriate, to support the Society’s client group and overall goals and philosophy.
- Additional Duties
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
- Provide after‑hours on‑call support as required.
- Assist with technology, donations/donor tracking, social media, website and community events.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Child and Youth Care, or related field.
- Extensive knowledge of gender‑based violence, trauma-informed practice, and counselling approaches.
- Experience supervising staff in a BCGEU or similar unionized environment.
- 3–5 years of progressive program management experience in community social services.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, provincial frameworks, financial management, and labour relations.
- Training or experience in trauma-informed leadership, HR, planning, and communication.
- Experience with cross-sectoral collaboration and community coordination work.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead using trauma-informed, culturally safe, and anti‑oppressive approaches.
- Excellent planning, organizing, and administrative abilities.
- Proficiency with Office 365.
- Familiarity with donations management, light bookkeeping and office administration.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners and independently under pressure.
- Crisis response skills and flexibility to attend meetings outside regular hours.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
