Surrey Women’s Centre is CHANGING THE DEFINITION OF VICTIM by providing a wide range of Crisis, Court and Counselling services to women, girls, and gender diverse individuals who experience domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and other forms of gender-based violence.

We are currently hiring for (2) full time Counsellor positions to join our growing and diverse counselling team.

Position Overview

Job Type: Permanent Full time

Number of Hours: 35 hours per week with the opportunity to work flexible hours

Pay Rate: Starting at $36/hour

Location: Surrey, BC

Job Summary

Counsellors provide individual counselling and related support to all survivors of gender-based violence including those who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, sexual exploitation and/or childhood abuse. All work is conducted from an anti-oppressive, feminist, & trauma-informed framework.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • To provide trauma-informed, client centred counselling to survivors of gender-based violence.
  • To facilitate psycho-educational groups that facilitate connection, empowerment and healing.
  • To maintain accurate up-to-date records and case notes, including documentation of all client contacts, referrals to and consultation with community agencies and professionals.
  • To work collaboratively with program administration to manage and develop the program, including waitlist management and collecting monthly statistics.
  • To enhance communication and support effective team development both within the counselling program and within Surrey Women’s Centre as a whole.
  • To consult, network and liaise with community agencies and professionals to maintain up-to-date information on available resources, and to maintain positive community relations and build mutually beneficial partnerships with other community partners.

 

Professional Qualifications

  • Degree in a related human/social service field or a combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current registration with a professional body (i.e., RCC, CCC, or RSW)
  • Registration with the Crime Victim Assistance Program or a willingness to register with the program.
  • Experience providing crisis intervention, individual and/or group counseling for survivors of gender-based violence

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of dynamics present within experiences of gender-based violence
  • Knowledge of feminist approaches to supporting survivors
  • Knowledge of anti-oppressive and trauma-informed practices.
  • Knowledge of appropriate community resources and experience making referrals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse clientele, and cultural competency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as a part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent computer and administrative skills.
  • Fluency and counselling proficiency in other languages including Punjabi.
