This 35 hour per week provides individual or group counselling for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in their relationships, or childhood abuse. The Women’s Counsellor assists women in identifying, understanding, and overcoming the effects of violence in their lives.   The position works closely with the Women’s Safe Shelter program.

Duties include providing individual counselling and emotional support to women, and may include developing and delivering public awareness/information sessions and educational support materials. Will maintain positive relationships with other service providers and agency team. It is critical that this person be able to demonstrate ethical thinking, respecting the diversity of our North Island community.

Required Qualifications:

A degree in Counselling or related field, and/or an appropriate combination of education and training is required.  Should have sound knowledge and understanding in the area of violence against women and children. Preference may be given to applicants who have a minimum of two years’ experience in providing direct counselling with women who have experienced abuse.  Other assets would be art and play therapy experience; training in trauma informed practice; knowledge of Indigenous culture; and experience working as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.

A valid driver’s license and own vehicle, as well as a successful completion of a criminal record check are required.  As a member of our team you will receive an excellent benefits package and work in a very supportive and flexible environment.  Wage is dependent on qualifications and experience.
