STV Counsellor and CBVS Support Worker
Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre

POSITION SUMMARY

The Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre (KSACC) is looking to hire a Stopping the Violence (STV) Counsellor and Community-Based Victim Services support worker. STV Counsellors provide counselling and support services to self-identified women and non-binary people ages 19 and up who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in relationships, or childhood sexual abuse. CBVS support workers help clients navigate the legal system; provide resources and community referrals; and accompany people who are called to be witnessed in criminal trials. This position is based out of KSACC’s Kamloops and Logan Lake offices. This is a permanent full-time position (35 hours per week).

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide one-on-one counselling with adult clients
  • Ability to travel within Kamloops and between Kamloops, Logan Lake and Ashcroft
  • Client intake and assessment to determine program suitability
  • Referral to community agencies
  • Develop and implement support plans and counselling goals for adults
  • Monitor and evaluate client progress
  • Participate in case management with Clinical Supervisor and Counselling Programs Manager
  • Maintain internal statistics as well as statistics for funding body
  • Collaborate with community agencies when necessary to provide a holistic support plan
  • Advocate for clients when necessary
  • Provide psychoeducational material as necessary
  • Conduct consistent file management including the maintenance of client information, forms related to privacy and confidentiality, client notes and other items related to file management
  • Help clients navigate the legal system including offering options for reporting and providing court accompaniment
  • Provide crisis intervention as required
  • Other duties as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  1. Minimum 1 year one-on-one counselling experience
  2. Minimum 2 years of experience in the area of sexual violence or related trauma-informed practice
  3. Criminal record check

 

ABILITIES/SKILLS/ASSETS

  • Undergraduate or master’s degree in psychology, social work, counselling or related field
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Understanding of the Canadian legal system
  • An ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; both verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, advocacy skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a variety of agencies
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed counselling practices, feminist practice and counselling, sexual violence, sexual exploitation and offender patterns
  • Knowledge of relevant assessment and counselling techniques used with survivors of sexual violence
  • Direct program delivery experience in the community service sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy
  • Capacity to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Excellent computer skills and comfort using video conferencing technology
  • Demonstrated capacity to prioritize workload
  • Demonstrated capacity to adhere to privacy and confidentiality legislation and guidelines
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
