About the Role

At Family Services of Greater Vancouver, we’ve been helping people in crisis since 1928. As a non-profit, we help people develop skills and knowledge, empowering our neighbours to create positive change in their lives. Our team is made up of more than 420 staff, including expert counsellors and support workers who provide compassionate, client-centered care to youth experiencing homelessness, families and children impacted by trauma, victims of domestic violence, and other vulnerable people from an evidence-based, trauma-informed lens. This is a full-time 35 hour per week permanent position. The position generally requires daytime work that can be condensed into 4 days per week. This position is located at the New Westminster Police Services Station and reports to the Manager of the Family Services of Greater Vancouver Victim Services Division.

Work Hours: 35 hours per week (full-time), Tuesday to Friday

Salary: GS11 Step 1    $2,242.80 gross bi-weekly

What you bring:

 

Education, Training, Experience

  • S.W. or relevant B.A. from a recognized accredited university; equivalencies will be considered
  • Minimum two years’ experience supporting and advocating for survivors who have experienced violence and abuse

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of Provincial Policy on Violence Against Women in Relationships (VAWIR)
  • Knowledge of dynamics of violence in intimate relationships, criminal harassment and sexual/physical assault.
  • Knowledge and experience with feminist approaches to intervening in violence against women, taking into account the intersectionality of persons marginalized on the basis of gender, race/ethnicity, economic status, language, culture, age, ability, sexual or gender identity
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention and support skills
  • Ability to maintain integrity and hold confidentiality as a Victim Support Worker, while collaborating with systems with differing mandates and perspectives
  • Computer skills in Windows/PC environment
  • Ability to successfully pass an enhanced police security clearance and background check
  • Possess valid BC driver’s license and have access to a vehicle
  • Second language is an asset
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination status will be required
